For the love of Gelato

How we got engaged

Bonjourno! Rick knows my favorite place in the world is Italy...so we planned a trip at the end of last year to this wonderful country that fills up my heart. It was our second night in Venice and we had made reservations to eat at this quiant little restaurant on the water (well I guess you could say everything is on the water there!).  I had noticed Rick was acting a little anxious all day, I just figured it was the time change, maybe jet legged, who knows! After dinner I had mentioned that we should go on a gondola ride, little did I know he had already reserved a boat ride around 10pm. Rick suggested that we grab a glass of wine, walk the streets for a bit and take a ride later. Well we weren't on a time schedule, at least in my eyes and we're in Italy, so why not?! He ordered two glasses of cabernet really quickly and just walked us straight to the entrance where you hop on the gondola! I was so excited, jumped right on in and then noticed two men followed us on. I don't know if it is my naive personality or the red wine talking, but I just figured they needed a ride home, didn't think a thing of it. As we pushed away from the street and into the canal one guys pulls an accordion out of his bag and the other begins to sing along as we drift through the streets of Venice. I am on cloud nine thinking this can't be happening! What are the odds these two men (one who looks JUST like my dad) chooses our boat to perform on?! As we make a left turn into the Grand Canal I noticed Rick struggling with something in his pocket, he gets down on one knee and already has tears in his eyes. At that moment it all clicked, I couldn't really hear a word due to the music and the people clapping on the streets as he proposed. I asked him if he had asked my dad first...then I said yes. Happiest moment ever.
